CALIFORNIA RED GOLD QUARTZ SPECIMEN 2.05 GRAM:
$49.00

NATIVEGOLD QUARTZ from CALIFORNIARuler is 1/4\" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter.Specimen weight: 2.05 Gram - 31.7 Grains Size: 16.5X14.6X6.8 mmWith most of the specimen-grade rock mined in the Mother Lode, white silicate quartz plays host to the gold. Several nice exposures of Au show up here. Some reddish oxidation accompanies the gold. It\'s source is the Sierra Nevada Mtns. of California. Gold ores mined around the world tend to be diverse in their mineral makeup. Here, we see predominantly quartz, gold, and some reddish stain. Entering the metallurgical realm of gold, in my book, VG (visible gold) with quartz is the most interesting mineral collaboration of all. There\'s no need for a glass i.e. pocket lens to see the gold here. If you\'re pondering the true nature of it, all my gold quartz specimens and cabs exhibit VG (visible gold) and are authentic.
I sell pieces of gold ore with real, visible gold in them. Most are from California and the U.S. These high-gradebeautiesare expensive to obtain and even harder to find. Prices aren\'t based on the amount of gold contained, but on the authenticity, rarity and collectibility of these specimens.
U.S. SHIPPING - $4.00(includes USPStracking to all U.S. destinations) INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS S&H $15.00
FAST REFUND OFFERED (If, for any reason, you\'re not happy with this item)For years, I scoured mining dumps examining every manner of rock through my pocket lens (loupe). In all that time, I neverfound a solitary piece with VG (visible gold). To me, it\'s still hard to believe.
Hydrothermal solutions under intense pressure carry super-heated, dissolved gold, silica, and assorted minerals. These are injected into fissures, faults, shear zones, and other permeable rock formations. As the aqueous solutions cool, minerals crystallize, harden, and metal-bearing ore bodies come to be. That\'s basically how gold-bearing quartz veins are created.

OPENING UP A HOLEFor most placer miners, too much overburden prevents easy access to gold-bearing strata. Operators are confronted with similar challenges, though not in every case, whether they\'re mining underwater or running large excavators on dry land. In active rivers and creeks, the two highest specific gravity metals i.e. gold and platinum sink faster and further than any other mineral. If sediments are submerged in moving water, any heavies in them are subject to a continuous state of liquefaction. Heavy metals will penetrate lighter alluvium and sink to bedrock or to false basement rock of whatever type. These \'false bedrocks\' are usually conglomerates. If you can\'t reach bedrock or false bedrock to test it, what\'s the point to wasting resources trying to mine there? If you already know that gold\'s in the ground, then fortune favors them prepared to dig like fuzzy, little gophers - the man or woman who is relentless - the miner prepared to excavate hole after hole until good ground is located or they come up empty-handed. That\'s the miner who ultimately meets with success. Ask \'Chile Joe\'. He\'ll tell you about \'true grit\'. Don Leigh and Al Bigelow are two more of my old dredging buddies. All those miners ran big dredges all by their lonesome. They didn\'t need \'no stinking rock packers\' or tenders. Now those were some tough, determined hombres for you. Guys oblivious to the word \'quit\'. One time, Joe was dredging a Trinity River clay pack with suspended boulders all around him A \'widow-maker\' tumbled in from behind and broke his leg. Within a week, he was back in the water.
When there\'s uncountable feet of gravel to go through, you gotta believe it\'s the right spot before committing to some marathon dig. Churn drills, in some environs, may reveal what\'s on bedrock. They\'re not always practical, however. Placer sampling isn\'t a \'one size fits all\' kind of deal. With layer upon layer of barren sediment, it can take days of excavation before bedrock is reached. Confronted with twenty feet of overburden means terracing, clearing off strata one layer at a time. If it\'s indeed possible to reach bedrock, which you may not, there\'s a good chance you\'ll encounter boulders all packed together. These will need to be moved before you can begin sampling. Incomplete testing often causes a prospector to miss the lead entirely. In the creekbed of relatively-narrow creeks, you\'ll sometimes find boulders from top to bottom. They also hang suspended from embankments waiting for some outside movement to jar them free from loose sand and tangled root-systems. Boulders come in all shapes, sizes, weights, and compositions. Many times, good pay lies embedded between them. Boulders can be a real blessing or a miner\'s worst nightmare. When they\'re suspended, in a position to come crashing down, gnawing at the back of your mind is that constant reminder of just how dangerous working underwater can be. Bering Sea dredgers operate in harsh conditions. The ocean\'s colder than blue blazes. Much of the time, \'vis\' is practically zero. On the plus side, the best gold seems to be concentrated virtually right at the surface or within the top 3 to 4 feet. The pay is actually upside-down from how it is in most gold-bearing drainages. Another factor benefiting Bering Sea dredgers is they don\'t have to worry much about boulders falling on them. If I were about twenty years younger, I\'d definitely give \'er a go. But no one ever said gold mining was an easy gig. Historically, miners are known to tackle just about any kind of adversity or obstacle to get at the gold.
Many big rocks concentrated onbedrock canbenudged out of the way with a pry bar. Many can\'t. Using a come-a-long or powered winch, you generally need to open up space around bigger rocks so a chokercable can be secured. Nowadays, I see they\'ve designed giant, mechanical super-claw pinchers built to clamp onto boulders which then are high-lined or hauled away with winches. Pretty cool concept, really. With many miners, the discovery of gold sets off an instinctual shark-feeding-frenzy. You need to keep emotions in check and mine cautiously. Conditions arerarelythe samefrom one site to another, one dredge hole to the next. Welcome to the wild world of gold mining! To whom it may concern, \"backyard gold\" was my idea. I started writing about it here on over twenty years ago. Oh well. What the heck?

Thanks forchecking out our digs.
