Burgess Airplane Propeller Antique Pre-1919 Mahogany With Copper Leading Edges.

This Burgess aircraft propeller is World War I era and may be the most significant historical propeller currently on the market. it was built by the Burgess aircraft company in Marblehead Massachusetts. The factory caught fire and was destroyed in 1919. Starling Burgess only built for the Army, Navy and the Wright Brothers. At one point Burgess built under a contract with the Wright Brothers where he had to pay them $1000 for every aircraft constructed.

This is a large propeller measuring 8' tall x 6.25" wide at center x 11" wide at tips. This is an amazing piece of history unmatched by nearly any other. It is solid mahogany. I estimate it weighs 80 lbs. The hammered copper or brass on the leading edges is true artistry. The attach bolts are still in place and don’t appear to have been touched for decades. The Burgess label is still affixed. (see photo)

This is a true collectors piece and probably belongs in a museum. Treasures like this don’t come along often. If it doesn’t sell I won’t be disappointed.
