Fighting with the demon Raktabija was an impossible feat because every drop of his blood that fell to the ground gave rise to another demon. The Gods went to Shiva - the god of destruction in the Hindu trinity - for help. Shiva was deep in meditation but his consort Parvati decided to act and in the frocious form of Kali set out to kill the demon.
