The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is an American long-range, subsonic, jet powered strategic bomber. It has been operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) since the 1950's. It had its first flight on 15 April 1952, and was introduced into service in February of 1955. The B-52 has gone through multiple versions since it's inception. Superior performance at high subsonic speeds and relatively low operating costs have kept them in service despite the advent of later, more advanced, strategic bombers. From 1952 to 1962, there have been 744 models manufactured. There are currently 88 models still in existence: 58 operated by active USAF squadrons, 18 by USAF Reserve squadrons and 12 in long term storage.
This Boeing B-52H with serial number 61-0036, is part of the 96th Bomb Squadron of the 2nd Operations Group, based out of Barksdale Air Force base, Louisisana. The B-52H variant had more efficient Pratt and Whitney TF33-P-3 Turbofan engines. The tail armanent consisted of a General Electric M61 20mm, six-barrel rotary cannon, and it had an extended unrefueled range of over 8,800 miles. The USAF still has 58 Boeing B-52H models in service.
This model of the Boeing B-52H Stratofortress is a beautiful 1:200 scale diecast reproduction of this famous USAF bomber aircraft. It is a highly detailed model with accurate markings, detailed engines and underwing fuel tanks, detailed landing gear, and can be shown in flight or on the ground configuration on the included dispplay stand. The box has minor shelf wear from being moved around from long term storage, and original shipping.The model is approximately 10.00" long with a 11.25" wingspan. All sales are final. PLEASE NOTE: This is a beautiful detailed reproduction of the Boeing B-52H. Many of us serving in Vietnam found this aircraft to be a familiar sight throughout the war. This is a historic model and will be an excellent addition to any United States Air Force collection, any Vietnam era aircraft collection, any military aircraft collection, or any aviation enthusiast's collection. The box has minor shelf wear. This is the only one available.
NOTE: The last three photographs in the series are of a B-52H model taking off, on a low level mission, and the last photograph is an excellent example of the crosswind landing and take-off capabilities of the B-52. Wouldn't it be nice if all aircraft had this capability?
