Bernard M. Baruch SIGNED Portrait Photograph - US Statesman :
$225.00

After more than 60 years of collecting, it is time to move my collections along to new homes. I was friends for several years with an older gentleman who had the privilege of meeting and speaking with Bernard Baruch at his home outside Georgetown, SC in the 1940s. He gave me one of Baruch’s books, “The Public Years” and I was fascinated to learn how influential Bernard Baruch had been. Baruch (1870-1965) had made his fortune by age 30 on Wall Street, and then left finance to enter public life and service. One of his first significant roles was during WWI with Woodrow Wilson appointing him as Chair of the War Industrial Board where he managed and coordinated the entire US economic mobilization. He served as a close advisor to Wilson and helped shaped the Treaty of Versailles. In WWII, at the urging of President Roosevelt, he took a similar role guiding the economics of the US and Allied war industrial utilization and was critical in the work to greatly reducing the time it took to procure supplies, materials, and build tanks and planes for the war. After the war in 1946, he served as the US representative on the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission, the forerunner of the IAEA. He was a courteous and insightful leader in US and international affairs and served as a close advisor to both Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt during the war years. Bernard Baruch is such an extraordinary historical figure that I recommend further reading which should include the other book he wrote entitled, “Baruch, My Own Story.”
This signed portrait measures 9 1/2” x 10” and is in excellent condition. It does not appear to have been framed or displayed as the colors are still vibrant and the signature is strong and bold. The distinctive signature was made with a blue fountain pen and he adds the date of Aug 3, 1951. The back is blank and has no writing or marks. This has been stored in my desk out of sunlight and is enclosed in an archival quality sleeve. FREE PRIORITY SHIPPING to within the US.
