This is a full sheet, 50 stamps, unperforated, in a nice wood frame and under glass. These were issued to commemorate the Berkshire Symphonic Festival with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1936.
These are a great collection/presentation piece of 85 year old Stamps.
These were issued in a very limited quantity and few remain in existence. They do not carry any postage denomination. However, many people used them as Postage Stamps.
I have obtained additional information establishing the provenance of these and “Promotional” stamps.
The Provenance of these “ Stamps” is as follows:
A very prominent supporter of Tanglewood, who was employed by the BSO- Boston Symphony Orchestra, gave a set to each of the following: the Lenox Library-( see them on the 2nd floor), Peter Serkin, Emanuel Ax, Martin Bookspan and Judy Borger.
This set is from The estate of Peter Serkin and was purchased at a Tanglewood Benefit sale by, ( name released upon purchase) for $1,750.
These are being offered $1,200 with a portion of the proceeds being donated to Tanglewood to support the Young Musicians Program.
These belong in the collection of any great musician, family or friend of Tanglewood or resident of Stockbridge, Ma.
These collection is an important piece of Philatelic History.
The frame is 18” tall by 15” wide and are under glass
Also, received free Tanglewood gift.
