I\'m pleased to offer this specimen of Baryte (variety: Oakstone) from Arbor Low, Derbyshire, England. The specimen measures 2.34 x 1.42 x .41 inches or 5.94 x 3.61 x 1.04cm and is polished on its display surface.
I\'ve always loved these specimens and pick them up whenever possible. This unusual stalactic variety of baryte resembles a round of oak and is thus called oakstone. I am unaware of any locality other than the Arbor Low site (known for many, many decades) for similar specimens. These have long been considered UK classics and I noticed a slightly larger one available with an established dealer priced at $320!!! Yikes!
