I’m still learning about ceremonial, souvenir, and traditional art in the tribal category. As I recently said to my son, you don’t learn without doing ! Gulp. I’ve had Some experience in that statement here, and after years of being away doing other things, I’m jumping back in as I find material. This extremely large metro I’m in ( Albuquerque, New Mexico ) has a great cross cultural component. This somewhat roughly carved wood of unknown species, is smooth enough on the front for all these beads. They must be glued somehow ( though in this family of artists I know that glue can mean things like rabbit skin glue ) with the shape approximating 8 by 4 1/2 inches. The shapes of the facing beaded areas, like cheeks, nose, forehead and chin - are raised in carving emphasizing the expression intended. It is quite fierce in beauty, and has grown on me more with time.
