BBDO TV Commercial Storyboard Tareyton Cigarettes Rather Fight Than Switch Black Eye Advertising with 8 Illustrations. The first photo shows 7 panels but there is an 8th panel tucked under the last one. This storyboard has no top cover. Fine condition - see photos. Measures 17\" x 22\". Not marked on the back but most others in same lot were marked BBDO Microfilm Center ad dated late 1960\'s to early 1970\'s era. BBDO is a worldwide advertising agency network, with its headquarters in New York City. The agency originated in 1891 with the George Batten Company, and in 1928, through a merger with Barton, Durstine & Osborn (BDO), the agency became Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn. With more than 15,000 employees at 289 offices in 81 countries, it is the largest of three global networks of agencies (BBDO, DDB and TBWA) in the portfolio of Omnicom Group.The Barton & Durstine Company (founded by Bruce Barton and Roy Sarles Durstine) opened in January 1919, and when Alex Osborn joined the agency in July 1919, it was renamed Barton, Durstine & Osborn. In 1928, the George Batten Company (then managed by William H. Johns) merged with Barton, Durstine & Osborn to form Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborn, abbreviated B.B.D.O. or BBD&O, later BBDO.
\"Us Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch!\" is a slogan that appeared in magazine, newspaper, and television advertisements for Tareyton cigarettes from 1963 until 1981. It was the American Tobacco Company\'s most visible advertising campaign in the 1960s and 1970s.The slogan was created by James Jordan of the BBDO advertising agency. The first print advertisement appeared in Life magazine on October 11, 1963. The advertisements would appear solely in print between 1963 and 1966. In 1966, the first television advertisements with the slogan aired.The target of the campaign was to create a sense of loyalty amongst Tareyton smokers. The models were made to look as though they each had a black eye, presumably earned in battles with smokers of other cigarettes.The slogan received grammar criticism from some quarters, which claimed correct usage should be \"we\" as the subject pronoun rather than \"us\", normally an object pronoun.
