BARYTE on DOLOMITE with CHALCOPYRITE--Dreislar mine, Germany--Very Aesthetic:
$145.00

I'm pleased to offer this excellent and very attractive specimen of Baryte on Dolomite with Chalcopyrite from the Dreislar mine, Dreislar, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The specimen measures and impressive 6.05 x 4.54 x 1.70 inches or 15.40 x 11.53 x 4.32cm and is in exceptional condition!! This is from the Dr. Leonard Lesko (1938-) collection of Gold Canyon, Arizona.
Dr. Lesko is a world-renowned expert on Egyptology and Near-Eastern Languages and Civilizations and has been widely published along with his noteworthy wife, Barbara--herself a noted expert. I met with Leonard and Barbara at their home a few years ago when he decided to cull a portion of his mineral collection. The backside shows his signature very tiny collection number 396.
This piece is fabulous! The sharp chalcopyrite crystals are evenly distributed across the top of the sharply crystallized dolomite rhombs. Stark white bladed aggregates of baryte accent the piece to provide contrast in color and texture. I've had several of these over the years (mostly chalco on baryte) but none this good, this size and this condition. The Dreislar mine was explored for sulfides over a century and a half ago but soon abandoned. High prices for baryte (barite) in the 1950s brought the mine into production and it has been a noted source for these exceptionally attractive specimens ever since. The mine ceased production in 2007 (mindat.org).
This specimen requires a good stand for proper display and I will include one at no extra cost. Please check my response and my other items. All specimens are carefully wrapped, come with complete and accurate labels and are quickly shipped. As always, your complete satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteedand I even offer FREE return shipping on any item that fails to satisfy for any reason---you can't go wrong. I'm reminded of the firm pledge printed on the old Foote Mineral Company mineral catalogs from more than a century ago,"Quality of specimens is assured as we permit return of specimens at our expense." Thanks for looking!
I buy collections! Please contact me if you have a collection for sale or know of one that is available. I will pay a finder's fee to anyone that can point me to an eventual purchase!
