Authentic Handmade African Maasai "Rungu" (Club), Masai Mara, Kenya:

"Rungu" is Swahili for club. These hand-carved, hardwood clubs are made from the "Olive tree" (as shown in photo)" found in the Masai Mara, Kenya. A rungu is used by a warrior in the wild for protection against attack. In Maasai culture, the rungu is an important emblem of warrior status for young males. A special beaded one is held by the speaker (Chief Ole Kipas in photo) at important tribal gatherings.

*Approximately 18-20 inches long,

*Solid end knob approximately 7.5 to 8 inches around.

All African products that I sell are purchased directly from Maasai villages that I assist. It is my goal to help these villages generate sustainable income to rise from poverty, educate their children, feed their families and have a better life.

FACT: the average tuition to send a Maasai child to public school in the Masai Mara is only $30 a year. Yet many families cannot afford to send their children to school.
