Authentic handwritten, signed, and dated note by Lord Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892), English author and poet, often regarded as the chief representative of the Victorian age in poetry. Tennyson succeeded Wordsworth as Poet Laureate in 1850; he was appointed by Queen Victoria and served for 42 years.Written at his Farringford, Isle of Wight residence, and dated Dec 11, 1889; on a single sheet of paper, measuring approx. 6.25x5.75 inches, pasted onto an improvised cardboard frame. In excellent condition; the ink imprint remains strong and unblemished. The paper shows toning and few small creases.
Tennyson wrote a number of his most famous poems at Farringford House on the Isle of Wight where he lived since 1853. This very note is one of the last ones which bears the Farringford address, since he moved to his summer house in Aldworth before his death in 1892.
