Frederic Auguste Bartholdi [1834 1904] was a French sculptor forever remembered for designing the Liberty Enlightening the World, better known as the Statue of Liberty. Bartholdi began his studies in architecture and later studied sculpting and took drawing lessons from Martin Rossbach in Paris. In the 1850\'s Bartholdi traveled to Yemen and Egypt which sparked his interest in colossal sculptures. In 1871, he made his first trip to the United States where he presented the idea of a massive statue gifted from the French to the Americans in honor of the centennial of the American Independence and the alliance of France and the United States which began during the American Revolution. This first trip to America began a long and difficult period for Bartholdi in his effort to raise the money and develop techniques needed to complete his gift to America. After years of fundraising and hard work, Bartholdi delivered the Statue of Liberty to America, and it was inaugurated in 1876. Listed for sale is a stunning display which contains a note written by and signed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. The note in French [untranslated] is written on a telegram page, signed \'\'Bartholdi\'\' and dated \'\'10 mars 1886\'\' in black fountain pen. The page measures 5.00 x 3.00 inches with trivial toning/soiling otherwise in fine condition. The letter is completed in his hand and has been authenticated by JSA Authentication Services and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. Mounted to each side of the letter is a sepia photograph [6.00 x 8.50] of Bartholdi and a wonderful sepia photograph [6.00 x 8.50] of Lady Liberty under construction. Mounted below is a professionally engraved metal bio plaque which reads as follows, \'\'Frederic Auguste Bartholdi August 2, 1834 - October 4, 1904. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French people commemorating the alliance of France and the United States during the American Revolution. Lady Liberty has peered stoically across the New York Harbor ever since she landed from France in 1886. This got people wondering, who was the face of Statue of Liberty? Turns out it was the sculptor Frederic Bartholdi\'s mother.\'\' The display has been professionally assembled in all acid free material with great attention to detail as follows. Each item within the display has been triple matted in a unique taupe outer matte and accented with a dark brown and a lighter brown inner matte. The display has been completed in a quality ornate bronze wood frame to the dimensions of 24.00 x 14.00 inches and it is stunning. The letter is a wonderful example of this prominent French sculptor who gave us Lady Liberty. It has been authenticated, beautifully framed and we promise absolutely no disappointments or simply return. We have listed anice collection of military, aviation and astronaut autographs.
