Many images of gods and goddesses riding dolphins have come down through history, so it may be possible that this wonderful Lady Lamp was supposed to portray Aphrodite or Galatea in the Greco-Roman tradition. Her dolphin is covered by waves and only the head serves as a prop for the Lady\'s arm as she holds the lamp aloft.Unfortunately this particular Lady Lamp has had a hard life. Most noticeable is that she is missing her globe and at one time her arm was broken. She is made of spelter and over time, cracks have appeared. Nevertheless, she is a heroic figure with her dolphin and most of her faults have been repaired or at least stabilized. In addition to the lady herself, the interesting active wave surface still wows. The manufacturer is unknown as no marks have been found on the base.
Despite what has already been said about the condition, this lamp is a survivor, and the tarnish & wear, only adds to the aged patina. As pictured the cord is in usable condition, but probably should be replaced. Personal preference will determine whether she has a glass globe/shade or not and if so, a suitable item should not be hard to find. There has been some repainting and cracks have been reinforced by epoxy putty on the underside as pictured. Also visible is a small broken part of the underside rim.Measuring about 17-3/4\" tall with the bulb x 12-1/2\" base width x 7\" depth and it weighs just over 4 pounds 4.3 ounces.
