Thisovershot coverlet has some unique features.Most notable, it is a rarely seen four post bed coverlet. It was woven in three (3) panels and whilethe main field has a basic star or wheel pattern, the overhang woven into theside panels has a different pattern. Madefrom linen and wool it isn’t as heavy as most coverlets of this type. Circa first quarter 19th century.Measures about 68 x 53 inches (without side overhang); overhang adds 19 inches(an indication the coverlet was used on a bed with height). Clean, although fabric has thinned in someplaces, mostly the top edge which shows wear. There is a section of lightercolor threads about 18 inches from the top, mid to right side; it seems causedby the use of lighter color threads; not noticeable unless in bright sunlight.
