Antique Narwhal Tusk Cast Resin Tooth Replica 10” New Yellow Unicorn Horn:
$39.99

This is a resin cast replica of a narwhal canine tooth, or ‘horn’. Because the trade of original bone material from whales has been outlawed, this replica was created from a sculpture which duplicates the texture of a real tusk in painstaking detail. Note the series of small ridges running parallel to the spiral grooves. These are unique to each animal, much like a fingerprint, and often show signs of damage and repair, a testament to the hardy constitution of these creatures. At 10 inches (25.4cm) long, this tooth is the perfect size to display on a shelf or in a cabinet of curiosities. The cast comes wrapped in black satin and includes an information card for display.*Note: This narwhal tusk is hand painted a yellowish-brown color to give it an antique look and for greater scientific accuracy. For a slightly lighter whitish variation, please see our ‘Unicorn Horn’ listing.

In medieval Europe, narwhal tusks were often mistaken for the horns of unicorns, and were thought to have supernatural healing properties. Northern traders, such as the Vikings, would sell them for large sums of money to wealthy nobles. By the 17th century, these horns became centerpieces of many curio cabinets. Primitive hunters were known to make them into lances, sometimes tipping them with spearheads made of meteoric iron. Narwhals may use their tusks as weapons, to break holes in ice, or in mating displays.

Length: 10 inches (252 mm)

Width: 1 inch (29 mm)
