It is made in etched technique with a wonderful effect. The design of the stein was created by Christian Warth - the most prominent Mettlach artist whose style is easily recognizable and whose signature is very well known to the Mettlach collectors.
The stein portrays a group of soldiers of the Renaissance period - Landsknechts or soldiers for hire. It was a very popular theme in the so-called Historismus period in arts in Germany, especially since most of the Landsknetchten were German or Swiss-German. A tavern server is filling up one\'s soldier beer stein while others are listening to a musician playing lute. The stein is fully marked on the bottom with Mettlach tower mark, mold number 1527 and \"85\" for the date of manufacturing 1885 according to the Mettlach marking system. The lid is pewter with a ceramics inlay made in the same etched technique and featuring a Renaissance pokal.
