Ferdinand Barbedienne (6 agosto 1810 – 21 marzo 1892) è stato un falegname e produttore francese, noto come fondatore del bronzo. Figlio di un piccolo contadino del Calvados , ha iniziato la sua carriera come commerciante di carta da parati a Parigi. Nel 1838 entrò in società con Achille Collas (1795-1859), che aveva appena inventato una macchina per creare repliche in bronzo di statue in miniatura. Insieme hanno avviato un'attività di vendita di miniature di statue antiche provenienti da musei di tutta Europa, democratizzando così l'arte e rendendola più accessibile alle famiglie. Dal 1843 ampliarono il proprio ambito riproducendo opere di artisti viventi e si diversificarono anche realizzando oggetti per la casa smaltati. Con lo scoppio della guerra franco-prussiananel 1870 l'azienda dovette passare brevemente alla fondazione di cannoni a causa della carenza di metalli ma in seguito riprese l'attività. Dopo la morte di Barbedienne nel 1892, fu sepolto nel cimitero di Père-Lachaise e l'azienda fu portata avanti dal nipote Gustave Leblanc fino al 1952.
