A superb 19th century Crazy Quilt, completely hand stitched and embellished in exotic velvets, satins, cotton, hand-embroidery and printed ribbons. In the lower right quadrant three ribbons commemorate the 1884 presidential election candidates from the Republican party, James G. Blaine and John A. Logan. Additionally there is a ribbon commemorating the 2nd Amendment with the phrase \"God & Home and Native Land. There is exceptional needle work done around each fabric patch in a variety of colorful decorative stitches. One noteworthysmall embroideredsquare features a brown spider in a spider web.There are as many as 17 different fabrics per square and the backing is purple satin.
The condition of this antique piece is excellent for a piece dating to the 1880s, indicative of light use. We note an area in a corner of the reverse where there is wear and one small panel in the upper right that has frayed.
