Antique cabinet card by G.Krikorian, photographer of Jerusalem in what was then Palestine.
This is a photo of a woman in traditional costume holding a jug. The edges and front printing are gold. On the front is printed the name and seal of the photographer and \"Jerusalem.\"
Garabed Krikorian (1847-1918) was a Jerusalem photographer of Armenian origin. \"G. Krikorian Palestine Jerusalem\" is printed on the back. The back also has \"Konigl Preuss Hof-Photograph,\" showing his standing as photographer to the Prussian Royal Court. There is other information in Hebrew on the back, but we haven\'t been able to translate it.
Also written in ink on the back is the date April 19, 1900.
Some minor staining and discoloration but in pretty good condition for its age. See photos.
The cabinet card was a style of photograph widely used beginning in the mid 19th century. It consisted of a thin photograph mounted on a card typically 6.5 x 4.25 inches, as this one is. After 1880, it became increasingly used for portraits versus landscapes.
