Antique Beautifully Painted Lacquered Paper Mâché Dresser Set 19th century:

Beautiful set of five painted and lacquered papermâchédresser containers (including a lidded box) on a gorgeous lacquered tray. The tray is painted with a pastoral central scene surrounded by a faux-tortoise background. Exquisite detail. This could be of Russian provenance, but the figures are classical, so I am unsure. The interior of the cylindrical boxes are red and they each share the faux tortoise background on the exterior. Figures in pastoral scenes and cherubs or romantic figures and gilding decorate all the pieces. The tray is approximately 11.5" in diameter with a softly scalloped edge.
