Antique 19C Gold Gilt 19” Oval Frame Martha Washington Hand Colored Print:

This antique 19th century gold gilt oval frame displays a hand-colored print of Martha Washington, the wife of the first president of the United States, George Washington. The print was most likely produced in the mid 1800's. The artist who painted the original image is Gilbert Stuart. This print is a reprint of a portion of that artwork. It does not appear to be numbered on the print itself, but there are numbers on the back most likely written by the framer. Hand coloring was performed in the mid to late 1800's, usually with water colors or pigments. You can even see the canvas from the original artwork.

The print is made of paper and comes in an oval wood gilt frame which measures 15.5" wide X 19" tall. This historical memorabilia of one of the great women in history is a wonderful addition for collectors of political and presidential items. It is a unique piece that is sure to add a touch of history, elegance and inspire inquisitions in any space.

There are hairline seams noted at each side and some gold gilt has rubbed off in one spot. There is a small area of damaged wood on the rear as shown in the photos. Overall the frame is in great condition for its age. See photos for details.

Originally this most likely came paired with a portrait of George Washington, however we don’t know where he went!
