Original antique wood block engraving by political cartoonist / satirist Thomas Nast from the January 12, 1867 Harper\'s Weekly ~ incidents of ongoing abuse of African Americans AFTER the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, with captions describing scenes from 1866 of a Public Sale and corporal punishment + vignettes reflecting some of slavery\'s ugly history including \"STATE RIGHTS.\" featuring a skeleton surrounded by a snake
Overall condition is very good+ mounted on firm cardboard which has helped preserve the illustration; margin areas with some wear and paper loss ~ striking image by the artist known as \"The Father of the American Cartoon\" ~ 15\" x 10\"
