Extremely rare pear shaped coffee pot by Allen Porter, Westbrook, Maine. Circa 1835.Original painted finial and handle. High domed top. Marked on bottom, cear, A. Porter.Cf. Ebert, American Pewter, page 65, for notes on Allen Porter and an illustration of this coffee pot. Also, Jacobs, American Pewter, page 147.Note that Allen Porter is much scarcer than his neighbors, Freeman Porter and Rufus Dunham, all of the famous Westbrook, Maine group of pewterers.Absolutely wonderful and rare example of antique pewter for the serious collector.Base is 4 3/8" diameter.11 3/4" tall to tip of finial.
