This unique specimen features an alaskite granite dike cutting through amphibolite, showcasing a fascinating geological history from the Precambrian era. Collected from Montana, USA, this piece measures approximately 8.5 inches in length and 4 inches in width, making it a significant addition to any rock collection or educational display.

Geological Details:

• Igneous Dikes: Planar to irregularly-planar igneous intrusions that cut across country rocks. They can vary in thickness and orientation, from thin to extremely thick and vertical to oblique.

• Alaskite Dike: The light-colored dike is composed of alaskite, a granitic rock with very low mafic mineral content, predominantly made up of quartz and potassium feldspar.

• Amphibolite Host Rock: The dark-colored host rock is amphibolite, a foliated metamorphic rock rich in amphibole minerals. The precursor to amphibolite is typically basalt. The amphibolite in this specimen is Neoarchean in age, approximately 2.7 billion years old.
