This imposing ca. 1911 lost wax bronze casting depicting the General-emperor stands 18\" tall atop its 4\" x 8 1/4\" x 7 1/4\" naturalistically carved richly figured marble base and depicts Napoleon in a moment of intense concentration holding a spy glass behind his back and apparently surveying the progress of battle from an elevated vantage point on a rocky outcropping. As the images show, the piece is beautifully cast with fine hand-finished details and retains most of its parti-color patina with some expected golden rubs on the high points. There is a whitish residue, presumably from an older wax finish, that is evident in the creases and details. A simple application of wax should remedy this. Alfonzo Titze was a skilled and prolific Austrian sculptor who trained in the late 19th century and blossomed in the 1920\'s with his art deco inspired figural compositions. The base of this sculpture is a strong co-star having been formed from a chunk of rare, naturally formed European marble in purple-rose tones with chunky veins of cream, black and gray.
