The Aladdin Manufacturing Companyproduced variety of electric lamps from 1919 to 1959. The small company was located in Muncie,Indiana and produced various styles of lamps and were priced moderately for thetime. They manufactured their lampsunder the “Aladdin” name for years but was challenged in court by the AladdinIndustries Company and subsidiary of the Mantle Lamp Company. SinceMantle Lamp Company and sub-company was the Aladdin Industries Companythey were much larger and monetary resources were endless compared to thesmaller Aladdin Manufacturing Company, and Aladdin Industriessued for the rights and name of “Aladdin” and therefore lost the legalbattle to much better financed larger company and had to drop the “Aladdin”name. They later moved from Muncie to Alexandria, Indian. They continued makinglamps under the General Lamp Company name until 1959 when they closed theirdoors for good. Most collectors nowcall these lamps Aladdin Muncie lamps to eliminate the confusion withthe two companies. At one time I had thenewspaper article about the law suit by Aladdin Industries who were considereda larger company bully who welded their money power in the courts against AladdinLamp Company and ultimately ruined their overall business.
