The Douglas DC-6 is a four-engine propeller driven airliner manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1958. Military versions of this aircraft, the C-118 Liftmaster for the United States Air Force and R6D for the United States Navy, until 1962, when all Navy versions also became known as the C-118. The first flight of the DC-6 was on 15 February 1946. It was introduced in 1947 to American Airlines and United Airlines.
Northwest Airlines was one of the major airlines of the United States and a legacy carrier. The airline was founded in 1926. Northwest merged with Delta Airlines in 2008. Northwest had 24 Douglas DC-6A's and DC-6B's in service from 1953 to 1965.
This aircraft with registration N573 was delivered to Northwest on 08 February 1957. It provided service with Northwest until 1964 when it was sold to Sterling Airways. It provided service with Sterling until it was ultimately scrapped (how very sad).
