Here we have an old set of 3 fine & early litho prints signed by popular Victorian era and renowned artist, B.L. Corbett.
Background of these special caricatures:
The Sunbonnet Babies have a long history starting beginning in 1800s, prior to 1904.Their creator, Bertha L. Corbett (Melcher) has quite an interesting history; she created this particular series of 6 for publication in 1904; the series was called: The Juvenile Industries of the Week, at work & at play. Each print states what they are doing: Cleaning Day, Scrubbing Day, Mending Day, Washing Day, Baking Day, Ironing Day. Each print was signed, B L. Corbett, either in lower left or right corners.Featuring:This terrific trio remain in fabulous condition, including their antique original matching hand carved, solid wood, ornate navy blue frames w/heavy gold gilt that greatly enhance all 3 adorable early litho images. Frames have no loss, no repairs .. all joints being intact, tight & strong; no wobble or play.
Frame Measurements: 8.75 H x 6.75 W x 1/2\" DDeep
It appears all 3 are actual lithos; 2 signatures appearing appropriately in each lower corner .. the 3rd unseen & may well be below the bottom frame. We will not look for nor remove frame.
What we do see are early lithos, considering the look of the old paper mounted backings, i.e., obvious early thick, period florals\' wallpaper, condition showing age appropriate discoloration & slight taters here & there, plus their old matching hanging wires. We\'re fairly certain these are early lithos & not post WWII mid-century, later chromolithos & definetely not modern reproductions. To be sure, on closest loop exam, we see no pixalations, i.e., tell-tale modern reproduction characteristics.
Minimally these particular special creation framed caricatures came from an early children\'s book, circa early 1900s - 1940s, i.e., chromolithographs. We leave this to the buyer to determine; we cant offer a guarantee but report what we see as accurately as possible.
