ANTIQUE SAHARAN TUAREG TAKOUBA SWORD WITH SCABBARD (NO BALDRIC) 19th CENTURY:

For sale is an antique original 19th century nomadic Tuareg tribe Takouba sword with its original scabbard. The double edged blade is made of steel, the cruciform hilt is made of iron, wrapped in leather with tribal designs and topped with a domed brass and copper pommel. The blade is straight with three fullers and a round tip. The blade is somewhat pitted and has a few nicks and a little rust at the hilt as would be expected given the purpose of the sword and its age. The blade is firm in the hilt and the leather wrapped grip is tight and is in very good condition for its age.
The leather scabbard is original and in tact, although a bit fragile. The throat and locket have some cracks, as does the body where the suspension ring flaps attach, obvious stress points from use. Cracks in the leather are also present on the side of the body. The leather in the chape has worn away at the tip where it runs into the brass finial. The finial is attached to the body by a brass strap with tribal designs.
Sword in scabbard measures 34 1/2\" long. Weighs 1 pound.
