ANTIQUE BRITTISH BOBBY HELMET WITH BADGEI purchased this Bobby Helmet several years ago. The seller didn't have any information on the piece except to say that it was an English Bobby Helmet and that it was old. It did not have the front badge on it when I purchased it. I added that later (it's aBritish Metropolitan Police King George 6th Helmet Plate Badge from theWorld War II era).The outside appears to be fabric over leather. It is not a hard type of helmet like the modern-day Bobby Helmets, but soft. The top of the helmet has a truncheon top which is slightly bent, and the sides have the Black Rose circular motifs. On the inside leather it is marked "Christys' London" (See Pic). In an attempt to locate a history for the helmet, I found that it may be from the early 1900's-WWII era as the helmet is similar to construction to helmets made in that period. It has the Black Rose circular motifs common on English Bobby Hats. I purchased a helmet badge from that period to put on the hat. The holes in the helmet for the badge do not line up exactly with the badge so I do not believe it had the same type of badge on the helmet. But it looks neat! Please see pictures. This helmet has wear consistent with use and age. The smoking pipes are not part of this sale.
