This little card is called a "scapular".
From the internet: "...scapularsoriginated as aprons worn by medieval monks, and were later extended to habits for members of religious organizations. In later years they were given to the faithful as small gifts of blessings from the nuns and priests.scapulars are not merely blessed, but need to be invested by a priest to enroll the faithful. In later years (the late 1800s onward) they were given out as blessing gifts to the faithful. Maybe they always were? I am an amateur collector, so my info can be sketchy sometimes.
The scapular has a copyright date of 1936 and says "Apostleship of Prayer in League with the Sacred Heart", and also features a tiny little medal along with silk crocheted lace edging, as well as paper lace, and a silk ribbon. I can't tell if the medal is metal or paper, but it has a tiny loop that is sewn into the lace edging. The back is blank. It is a large size, measuring 4.5" x 3".
