Signed as "Brigadier General and/Chief Signal Officer, U.S.A./In charge of distribution of Documents". "Richardson's Quadrupeds" was probably Short characters of a few quadrupeds procured on Capt. Franklin's late expedition written by Dr. John Richardson in 1828. Sir John "Franklin's late expedition" was to the Arctic in 1825-1827. Adolphus W. Greely and his party of 25 men landed on northern Grinnell Land in the Arctic Sea in August 1881. Within a few months, Greely's expedition had charted the outlines of Grinnell Land, and obtained meteorological and magnetic data while three men from the party reached 83ยบ24'N, setting a new record for the farthest northern exploration. The party wintered at Cape Sabine until rescue ships arrived in June 1884. After returning to New York, Greely's party was hailed as heroic Arctic explorers. In 1935, he received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his contributions to polar exploration. Lightly creased. Shaded at blank left edge and at folds on verso (light show through).
