Offered here is a killer prepared mass mortality of pyritized brachiopods from the Waldron Shale Formation from Blue Springs Quarry (filled with water) in Waldron, Indiana; Silurian in age. The mass mortality matrix measures 4 3/4” x 4”. The average brachiopod measures around 3/8” wide with some as large as 1/2” wide. . As you can see from the pictures, the brachs have a beautiful pyrite coloration and are extremely 3-D. I am guessing, but I suspect there is something in the range of 45-50 brachiopods on this slab as well as some trilobite free cheeks and bryozoan. It took 4 hours to prepare this piece using fine dolomite powder under a microscope. These brachiopods are larger than the others I’ve posted. This beautiful piece was found about 20 years ago during the time we had a lease on part of the old Blue Springs Quarry outside Waldron, Indiana. Our quarry dig is full of water and no collecting allowed by the new land owner. If you have purchased multiple items, please do not send payment until I send an invoice.
