The Original character was created by writerOtto Binderand artistGeorge Pappas a \"cracked mirror image\" ofSuperman, and first appeared in Superboy#68 (1958).Debuting in theSilver Age ofComic Books(1956 – c. 1970), this original character has often been portrayed as anantagonistto Superman: however \"A. Bizarro\" is more of a bumbling antiherowanting to be left alone to live its backward type life. In the Post-Crisis DC Universe Bizarro is re-introducedinSuperman: The Man of Steel#5 (December 1986); a mini-series relaunching Superman with an updated origin and supporting cast. Within in this storylineLex Luthor orders his scientific team to create a cloneof Superman that was part of \"Project Changeling\". Incorrectly starting from the assumption that Superman is a human with metahuman abilities (his alien origin had not yet been revealed), the process results in a flawed copy, which Luthor dismissively refers to as \"...this bizarre– Oh, forget it\", before ordering for the subject to be disposed of.
