For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as thismakes anexcellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferrocerium rod. But due to this rock\'s rare large size, thisstone would be idea for knapping into a largespear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also makea good hammer stone. Large stones such as this are hard to find.Total weight is approximately7.5pounds. Though irregularly shaped, it is roughly box-shaped. At their longest points, the stone\'s sidesmeasures approximately 4.5\" x4.5\" x 4.5\",and itis approximately4.5\" inches thick at its fattest. This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way.Because this is a natural product, itwill likely contain fissures,inclusions or fractures. Several are visible on the surface (see photos).Chert and Jasper are the general name for several types of stone that are extremely hard and fracture into pieces with sharp edges. Flint is usually chert that is grey.This stone is reddish / brown.
