A bottom tap allows chasing and tapping threads very close to the bottom of blind holes as found in the cast-iron base of the plane, in the frog, and also in the slotted round nuts used to secure knobs and totes. This semi-bottom tap will allow threading a blind hole to within 3/16” of the bottom
