Notes: Very interesting piece with part of the crust containing two fossil crinoid stems. This supports the likely theory that the forest that the Burmese amber comes from was buried with sea water, preserving the vast amount of amber found there. This piece is polished except for the crust area, and is cut flat on the bottom to allow it to stand on its own.Fossil inclusions in amber are the most spectacularly preserved fossils in the entire fossil record. For the rest of the fossil record, you will occasionally have soft tissue preservation. However, in amber the preservation is so extraordinary you can sometimes see every facet of the insects eye. There is an enormous degree of biodiversity preserved, providing a glimpse into past ecosystems. Amber truly is a window into the past.
