The Sabre Knights aerobatic team was an unofficial group formed in April 1954 by pilots from the United States Air Defense Command's 325th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS) , which was based at Hamilton Air Force Base (AFB). Their dazzling displays took place in the skies, showcasing their precision and skill.

Initially, the Sabre Knights soared through the air in F-86F Sabres , but later that year, they transitioned to the sleeker F-86D models . The team consisted of talented aviators:

Lt. Col. Vince Gordon : The leader and organizer, who had previously flown with the "Skyblazers."
Capt. Bruce Jones : The right wing.
Capt. Dick Hellwege : The left wing.
Lt. Jim Low : The slot position. Lt. Low was a Korean War hero, credited with shooting down nine MiG-15s, five of them within his first six weeks in Korea. He later returned to combat in Vietnam, where he was shot down and captured in December 1967. Fortunately, he was released in August 1968 and retired as a Major in 1973.

Despite their remarkable performances, the Sabre Knights were never officially recognized as a demonstration team. Their typical show lasted about 20 minutes, showcasing their aerial prowess. However, in August 1955, the 325th FIS was deactivated, marking the end of the Sabre Knights' aerobatic displays 1 2 .

These daring pilots left an indelible mark on aviation history, their maneuvers etched against the backdrop of the sky, a testament to their courage and skill.
