  The magnetite crystal on this specimen is a well-formed 1.4\" octahedron that is embedded in a high contrast whitish tan matrix. The magnetite is a metallic jet-black color, with some luster. This crystal, which is not quite a perfect octahedron, is very large for the species, and displays nicely with good contrast.
