Introduction:

You may think that the price is a little high. You can buy a used, unmaintained Kanna around $30 to $50 on the ,but if you don\'t have much experience with Kanna, maintaining it so that it can be used properly will not work even if you spend days doing it properly.It is generally said that even a carpenter needs five years to become proficient with a plane, and it is the most difficult tool among carpentry tools.

To improve your Kanna skills, it is essential to first use a plane that has been fully maintained for immediate use.

I think that the price is worth the time and effort of maintenance.In particular, the superiority of Japanese Kanna is more evident with a new base.

Double-edged blade with Chip-breaker
The surface of the Dai-sole is tuned in two-point touch.

(A) 切味一番/ Kireaji-Ichiban （Size: 71mm,Sum/寸-8）, Vintage Original, New Blade& New Dai.

Blade: 72mm Wide (lower) x 116mm Hight, New.
Manufactured by Fusakazu Yamaguchi / 山口房一, a Kanna blacksmith from Miki City. He is the third generation of his family, following in the footsteps of Shotaro Yamaguchi, Fusataro Yamaguchi, and Fusakazu Yamaguchi. Fusakazu has already passed away and is no longer making Kanna blade.
The Kanna blades manufactured by Fusakazu are of extremely high quality, and are highly coveted items among enthusiasts, but are now difficult to obtain.
I happened to stop by a carpenter tool shop and found two blades. It cuts so well that I\'m keeping one for myself.
Currently, the blade is sharpened to an angle of about angle of 27 degree.
Chip-breaker: 62mm Wide x 55mm Tall, used.
Wood Bottom Dai: 89mm Wide x287mm Length x 36mm Thickness, NEW,
Since the Dai is new, the gap of the blade mouse is very narrow when the cutting edge is exposed.
The gap in the blade mouth is so small that you may not need a chip breaker for a while. Even if you insert the chip breaker, you will hardly be able to see the cutting edge. You may be surprised at how thin it can be plane with just one blade.

·In my video, I performed planing a SPF wood timber withoutchip-breaker because blade-mouth is very narrow. Wood shavings leaped out from theKanna were very thin as a stocking net. I have tried many Kannas, but cuttingedge of this Kanna is excellent, honestly, I was very surprised.

(B) 則宗/ Norimune (Size: 55mm）, VintageOriginal, Ready-to Use. This plane is like a BONUS!

Blade: 55mm Wide (lower) x 104m Tall, used.
Currently, the blade is sharpened to an angle of 27 degree.
Chip-breaker:48mm Wide x 56mm Tall used.
Wood Bottom Dai: 73mm Wide x 252mm Length x 33mm Thickness, used. The head side of the Dai has a bolt to prevent cracking.
Because it is a long-term storage item, the rust of the blade has transferred to the contact surface with the blade, and the slight rust that has penetrated into the wood fibers makes the blade prone to rust. Therefore, epoxy resin is applied to the contact surface to prevent the Dai from drying out and the blade from rusting.

In my video, I performed planing aSPF wood timber using Norimune. As a result of fine tuning of wood bottom andsharpening the blade edges, wood shavings leaped out from Kannawere very thin as a stocking net. It\'s a relatively small size of 55mm, so I think it will beuseful for planing small wood materials.

When you buy a used Kanna you have to set up it to planning in smoothly byyourself. Not only sharpening the blade-edge, but also reshape the blade, alsosharpening the chip-breaker blade (counter-blade) and tune the sole of woodbottom “Dai”. It took a few days to have these tuning.

Also, If you have used Kanna forthe first time you might be confused because of many things to do. (See thebelow website)

Now you have a chance to get ready-to-use.As soon an the Kannaarrives, you can use it but you should re-sharpen the blade from time to timeto maintain its sharpness.
