I am selling 2 Mid-20th Century Chinese Hand Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Plates
This stunning Chinese hand carved cinnabar lacquered plate “The Sense of Touch” is a limited edition of 19,500 plates total. This plate is numbered 18982.
It is an original work of art in the tradition of Chu Yuan-Chang, from the Ming Dynasty. First of a series celebration THE FIVE PERCEPTIONS OF WEO CHO.
It shows Intricate lacquer carvings of a fair beauty holding a baby birdie in her hand with 3 other birds sitting on a nearby branch. This is a superb tranquil Chinese scene.
The second plate is titled “SIGHT" and depicts a beautiful woman reading a scroll with a peacock standing on a branch surrounded by cherry blossoms.
This plate is numbered 14199
The Cinnabar plates are deeply carved giving them a three-dimensional quality and multiple layers of a thick lacquer are applied during the process to create a smooth surface.
Other steps involve bathing in a solution to add the coloring and polishing to give a final luster.
The plates first came onto the market in the late 1970’s, the oriental design of these plates would especially enhance any room with a complimentary motif.

The condition of these plates is Very Good, they have been polished and cleaned to enhance the details and the color. The back of both, mainly the second plate shows signs of wear and tarnish as shown in the pictures.
