On Offer:2.71ggram EL6 - Enstatite Chondrite end piece I NWA 7401
Type:Enstatite chondrite - EL6
Origin:Morocco
Official name:NWA 7401
Description:One of the early Northwest African classifications, this is an exceptional 2.71 gram EL6 meteorite end piece with some crust and window to the interior. TheEL and EH chondrites are a unique group of chondritic meteoriteswith compositions dominatedby orthopyroxene (enstatite) rather than olivine and more Ca rich pyroxenes. Enstatite is a pyroxene with a very low amount of calcium compared to other types of pyroxene, and often displays large well delineated grains.
What you get:2.71g NWA 7401 EL6 Meteorite specimen as shown, membrane storage/display box, & signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Northwest Africa 7401(NWA 7401)

Morocco

Purchased: May 2012

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6)

History: Purchased by Sean Tutorow in Morocco, May 2012.

Physical characteristics: 150 matched stones found together, weathered exterior, saw cut reveals light-gray, very fine grained texture, a few scattered light-colored chondrules, numerous small voids, friable.

Petrography: (C. Agee,UNM) SEM examination of a saw cut surface shows a distinct 3 mm radial pyroxene chondrule set in a matrix dominated by orthopyroxene, with accessory plagioclase. Plagioclase to 300 μm. No other chondrules with discernable outlines observed in the section. Matrix pyroxenes to ~100 microns; chondrule pyroxenes mostly elongate prisms to ~1 mm. Ubiquitous daubreelite, Si-bearing kamacite, and taenite. Minor schreibersite and K-rich sulfide (possibly djerfisherite). Some oxide and sulfate weathering products present on grain boundaries.

Geochemistry: (C. Agee and M. Spilde,UNM) Enstatite Fs0.6Wo3.4; plagioclase Or6.8Ab71.1An22.0; kamacite Si=1.16, Ni=5.05 (wt%).

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6), EL based on Si content of kamacite, type 6 based on absence of significant glass or olivine in the single analyzed chondrule and large plagioclase grains. This meteorite shares some textural similarities withAl Haggounia 001, although its plagioclase composition is significantly higher in An.

Specimens: 39.53 g including a probe mount on deposit atUNM, Sean Tutorow holds the main mass.
