Regale gates from production to installation, research suggests these were commissioned by Alexander III around the year 1884 bythe famed foundry of Franz San Galli on the patterns of Friedrich Melzer Furniture Studios.

These were the gates that the Bolsheviks stormed in 1905 and stood when the Provisional Government removed the Romanov’s iconic double headed eagles and monograms in 1917.

Monogram in at least one photo clearly reads A / II (Alexander II),a mistake or homage.Also, these photos show a Byzantine style cross over the crowns rather than the traditional Christian cross included in the recent restoration.

(4) Unmounted albumen photographs do show wrinkles, emulsion loss & edge tears from being improperly removed (only two) from black backing paper. Sizes from 7.25 x 9.25\" & 7.75 x 9.75\" to 8 x 10\".
