There's no shortage of reasons why

seemingly normal men and women

invest untold dollars and even more

hours to indulge their passions as drag

race competitors. Certainly toward the top

of that list would be more than a small de-

sire to be noticed. And while there are no

shortages of ways to make oneself seen

while at the wheel, there are a few more

rewarding than by sitting at the helm of a

clean and effective race car.

stumbled upon the car awhile back during

one of the popular 5-day bracket extrava-

ganzas at Moroso Motorsports Park in

sunny West Palm Beach, Florida. We pres-

ent it here as an example of a quick and

somewhat different approach to go-quick

bracket racing.

NEW MAGIC

For a low buck fuel racer, D.A. Santucci has really

stepped up with his latest "Black Magic" Funny Car.

Swoopy Ford Thunderbird body features Kenny Young-

blood paint scheme applied by Circus with Glen letter-

ing. Underneath is a brand new Bob Jinkens chassis and

500-inch JP-1 Hemi with Dart heads. With help from lady

friend Barbara and D.A. Jr., the hard working machine

shop owner from Pittsburgh already has the new "Magic"

cranking out 5.80s at 246 mph, with the promise of much,

much more to come. Not bad for a former Top Gas racer

who won Indy in 1969. Dave Milcarek photography.

Funny Car pilot John Force can be found

courting sponsors any time of the day or

night. What sometimes looks like a pleasant

scuttlebutt session on the steps of his trailer

can often be a sponsor offer. Says Force, "I
