1972 Wedgwood Black Basalt Memorial Medallion for HRH The Duke of Windsor - Limited Edition No. 1039 of 2000. King Edward VIII acceded the British throne on the 20th of January 1936, and decided to abdicate on the 10th of December 1936, due to his love for the American divorcee Mrs Wallis Simpson. After that he was known as the Duke of Windsor. This Wedgwood Basalt Jasper Medallion was issued to commemorate his death in 1972. It measures 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" x 1/2”. On the front is a relief portrait of the Duke of Windsor with a raised border in a laurel leaf design. The reverse features an inscription in gold lettering. The medallion is in very god vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Does not include the original box. Please see photos for condition details and feel free to ask questions.
