It is always difficult to build a trailbike that reaches a suitable compro-mise between the ruggedness of a dirtmachine and the smooth reliability ofa street bike used for daily transpor-tation. If your riding requirements fallin both of these categories take a goodlook at the Kawasaki 125 Enduro.As a trail bike the 125E is durableand it is manageable in all but themost demanding dirt riding situations.Out on the street the Kawasaki isperky enough to stay ahead ofmost four wheeled traffic and it comeswith a full complement of lights andinstruments to make street riding safeand convenient.Remember, the machine is a com-promise. It is not a highway burnernor does it handle like a motocrosserin the dirt. However, its forte is ver-satility and it is functional in bothapplications.Not only is the Enduro functionalbut its tasteful low-key styling is quiteattractive. The gas tank, fenders andoil tank are finished in a burnt orangecolor with spiffy stick-on color panels <and pin stripes. Chrome glistens on thefork sliders and the whole front end ;tmmnrvfic U/rvDl F» / r>-1 m-r.looks very tidy with twin instrumentfaces and a compact headlight shell.Detracting from the clean appearanceis the maze of cables and wires thatare strung from various control leversand instruments.Although it is intended for only oneperson, the seat is well rounded, cush-ioned on the sides, comfortable and eyepleasing as well. No passenger foot pegsare provided but there are mountinglugs for them on the swing arm andtwo skinny friends could pack double.Behind the seat a sturdy chrome lug-lage rack is mounted to the frame. Forcamping gear or school books the rack’smany bars and tie-downs are as handyas an extra hand and, somehow, Kawa-saki has managed to make it look goodtoo.Following the example of some suc-cessful racing machines, the frame usestwin down tubes to cradle the engineand two more tubes under the tankto brace the frame head. The swing armpivot is rigidly braced between gussetson the frame cradle tubes behind theengine. Although probably a bit heavy,the frame appears to be as strong asa bridge.
