1956 Battle of Coral Sea Cruise Book WWII Naval Aviation Photo History Book:

This book is very interesting for you World War II collectors. The book is titled “Cruise Book 1956.” The preface reads that “in May 1942, a battle was fought that marked a turning point in the history of Naval warfare. For the first time, a major naval engagement was fought, in which no ship from either side, sighted the other, nor was a single salvo exchanged between surface vessels. This was the battle of the Coral Sea, a landmark in the Pacific War, and a classic affirmation of the importance of Naval aviation as an indispensable weapon of modern warfare.” This book does not have numbered pages, but is almost 1 inch thick with pages. The book is hard bound, but the spine has loosened with age and at least one page has pulled free. The book needs to be treated with care. Each chapter is divided by a plain thick, colored paper that has a window cut - out to show the title of the next chapter through the window. This book is in moderate to good condition, other than the loose spine. All pages but one are still intact though loose. All pages are free of any tears, rips, marks, foxing, or damage of any kind. There is also no odor from mold or must. The book also has a thinner paperback book included, which is titled “Crew’s Book1956.” This book has pictures and information regarding the officers and men who were on the USS Coral Sea. This book is staple-bound, all pages are intact and free of any damage or foxing. Condition is very good. Both of these books were encased in a hard cardboard box with an open back for the spine of the books to show through. That cardboard enclosure/box is intact and will be included. Most all of the corners have ripped out and need to have a repair done with acid free tape for conservation purposes. I have taken photos of this for you to see. The book and box measure 11 inches wide by 11 and 1/2 inches high and not quite 1 and 1/2 inches thick. I have taken many photos for you to see details. I also have a binder with 1956 on it but included on the inside is a USS Coral Sea Mediterranean cruise dated 1955. Check my other sales out for that book if you are a World War II collector.
