1955 US Naval Academy 14K Gold Lapel Pin & Holder
This is a 1955 US Naval Academy graduate pin, manufactured by the L.G. Balfour Company in 14K gold. It is a beautiful gold cast pin featuring iconic USNA imagery -- anchor & chain, eagle, fully rigged tall ship, seahorses, swords and trident.- 0.75in x 0.75in pin dimensions
- 2.25in x 2.50in holder dimensions
- 4.5g to 4.6g pin weight (my scale bounces between 4.5 & 4.6 grams)
- markings on the back of the pin
- "LGB 14K", i.e. L.G. Balfour Company makers mark with 14 karat gold stamp
- "E·G·O·J·K·L·" 2 lines of initials
The pin employs a jewelry clutch fastener -- a metal locking mechanism that latches onto the pin needle.The original Balfour leather pin holder/protector features the USNA logo embossed on the front, a yellow cushion pillow to secure the pin, four overlapping flaps to protect the pin, and a snap to keep the holder closed.This 1955 historical pin will be a rare high quality addition for any military or maritime memorabilia collector.
