Jackson was presented with a medal by President Monroe for his victory at New Orleans in 1815. Jackson was running for the presidency in 1824 against John Quincy Adams. Jackson\'s supporters were soon wearing small brass medals which had the profile of Jackson on one side and some campaign slogan on the other.
