This small display of political items in Joseph Brown\'s collection represents different types of campaign insignia used from George Washington to Ike Eisenhower. The medal with GW on it is classified as a patriotic medal. There are only 200 known to be in existence. They were made for use at the inauguration of Washington in 1789. many persons used these medals for coat buttons and may have worn them throughout Washington in 1789. Most of the first items in this display are medals that were worn tied into lapel buttonholes. From Washington to Adams in 1824 there were no actual political campaign items.
